Cartridges

ROYEX CARtridges

The Royex cartridge is a non-detonating rock breaking cartridge. It is classified as a pyrotechnic article and holds a 1.4S transport classification. In the European Union, the cartridge is classified as a P2 product, under the European directive for pyrotechnical articles, by the BAM laboratory in Berlin, Germany.

The cartridge consists of a plastic housing containing a pyrotechnic propellant mixture. The robust plastic housing is designed to protect the propellant mixture and the igniter during handling and charging. Royex cartridges are currently offered in three diameters: 22, 32 and 38 mm in lengths from 70 mm to 1100 mm.

The 22 mm cartridge has been specially designed for very precise pre-splits where fracture zones must be eliminated and wall integrity is paramount. Typical applications are dimensional stone breaking in slate, limestone, granite, marble and similar rock types. or for tunnel perimeter blasting.  The 22 mm cartridges are also ideal for concrete demolition or in areas where only small diameter drilling equipment is available.

Royex 32 mm cartridges are the product of choice for highly sensitive civil projects. Containing enough breaking power to be cost efficient, the 32 mm cartridge maintains an excellent vibration control and fly rock minimization. Typical applications include precision civil projects such as bench blasting in urban environments or indoors. Trenching, wells or tunnel development applications are also situations where the 32 mm cartridges has multiple uses.

A Royex 38 mm cartridge is ideal for tunnel development or surface developments where larger burdens and hole depths can be allowed. It is also suitable for bigger operations where small hole drilling capabilities are scares or unavailable.

Maxfire igniters

MAXFIRE IGNITERS

Maxfire is the first ever 1.4S pyrotechnic initiation system with timing capability. It is also the foremost electrical or shock tube based system providing powerful initiation of propellant cartridges.  Timing/delay initiation has previously only been possible with conventional detonators. Delay precision is equal to traditional detonator systems.

The Maxfire initiation system features a highly accurate delay element encased in each igniter. Therefore it is possible to delay individual holes, or sets of holes, and thereby initiate the Royex propellant cartridges in a pre-determined sequence. Numerous delay sequences are available allowing the coordinated blasting of complete panels and development ends. No other system in the world is capable of this versatility.

Initiation heat and pressure is essential for the performance of non-detonating cartridges. The Maxfire initiation capability is the most powerful available on the global market today and this feature enhances the reliability and efficiency of the Royex cartridge making the Royex system cartridge the most powerful deflagrating cartridge available worldwide.

Maxfire igniters are connected and fixed into the Royex cartridge using a wingnut screw fitting that smoothly connects with the Royex igniter plug. The connection is secure and waterproof, ensuring that the igniter is firmly connected into the cartridge and in place during the loading and stemming operation.

ROYEX SURESTEM CLAY PLUGS

The Royex surestem clay stemming plugs are ideal stemming material for horizontal or up  holes. The clay consistency is specifically selected to ensure excellent blast  confinement while maintaining a mouldability and low water absorption content.

The surestem plugs are ideal to be used in  conjunction with the Royex cartridges for horizontal or up holes. The plugs are packed in fine paper and  offered in 43 x 150 mm with a weight of 450 gram each. They are sold in a case of 45 units totaling a weight of 22 Kg.

Custom sizes, consistency and dimensions can be made to fit client needs.

THE ROYEX HOLE IRON

Made of purpose matched steel, the hole iron is applied at the end of the drill hole and ensures that the gas energy is contained and propagates through the rock rather than out of the drill hole. This minimizes the risk of hole blow outs and ensures optimum results, even in drill hole depths as short as 60 cm. The product is especially useful in dimensional stone quarrying where straight cuts are needed and where normally shallow blast holes are used.

The Royex hole iron is made in two sizes, 32 mm and 25 mm for drill hole diameters of 35-40 mm and 28 – 32 mm respectively.
